One of the interesting things about selling our peanut butter is the number of times I hear people say that it will make them fat or they say, I am on a diet and can't eat peanut butter. The truth is anything consumed in excess can cause weight gain. It always makes me smile when they pass by the stall stuffing a sausage roll or cake. I would rather consume 200 calories of peanut butter than 200 calories of trans fats and pastry.
When buying peanut butter, it is always advisable to read the label, and some contain sugar, molasses, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (soybean), fully hydrogenated vegetable oils. Hydrogenated oils are not particularly good for you as there is evidence of heart disease linked to these types of fats. The Sweetarian Plain & Simple contains 100% peanuts.
Peanut butter is nutrient-rich and has a high ratio of good fats.
The fibre in peanut butter can promote healthy bowel movements and lower the risk of heart disease. It also has small amounts of protein which is great for a midday snack pick-me-up. Moderation is the key, but as a tasty snack, with fruit, veggies and great on toast, peanut butter has my vote.
